Perfect time to visit Bai Tho mountain Vietnam is at the crack of dawn and before the sun sinks below the horizon. Climbing Bai Tho mountain, you can get a panoramic view of Halong Bay from above.
“Halong”, I bet the thought of Halong bay-one of 7 wonders of the world will pop into your head right after hearing such word. However, apart from Halong bay, this city has a lot more for you to discover.
Recently, Bai Tho mountain has been receiving lots of attention from tourists, who visit the mountain to take photo and “check-in” on Facebook. The mountain used to be called “Truyen Dang” until a king named Le Thanh Tong patroled the North east sea, stopped at the foot of the mountain. So beautiful was the landscape that he was inspired to write his poem on the cliff. From then on, locals renamed the mountain into “Bai Tho” (Poem). Not being the city’s highest mountain but it is an ideal place to view the city from above.
Conquering Bai Tho mountain Halong is not that hard as people think. It is just 200m high so it takes you only 30 minutes to reach to the top. Best time to visit is early in the morning and late afternoon. Want to see sunrise and sunset? It is suggested that you kick your journey off at about 4:30 am and 4pm.
Climbing Bai Tho Mountain is so easy that you dont have to wear shoes. It is totally possible for you to wear slippers or sandals. However, your feet will get hurt for sure.
One thing to bear in mind: if there is any sign of frost, you are adviced not to climb. You can get caught in the rain without any hide. Plus, the frost will be a great obstacle to your vision. You may not see the landscape below.
How to get to the mountain
From the city central post office, tourists can easily find their way to Bai Tho Mountain Halong.
-Move along Le Thanh Tong street until you meet Hang Noi street when you see Nam Phong cafe banner.
-turn to the opposite street. The road to Bai Tho mountain has a section of narrow lane where you will see quite a few houses of locals. Ask them for direction and they will warmly show you the way.
-at the foot of the mountain stays a family of a mid-aged man, who is doing his job as a watchman of the area. If the gate is locked, you can ask him to open it. Vehicles could be left at the nearby stall or in the Ha Long market.
Remember to bring along some bottles of water because you will surely get thirsty during the road to the summit.

Along the road towards the top, you may meet an “extended family” of goats that are being kept here.
Lucky enough, you will catch sight of such a rare moment.
1/3 of the road has been reconstructed with steps so it is easy and safe to move.
